Colombo, July 8 (Daily Mirror) - Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa dismissed concerns over vehicle imports, stating that undue fear is being created unnecessarily.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing to announce Cabinet decisions, he said the government is managing vehicle imports within a USD 1,200 million fund allocation and that the limit has not been exceeded.
“Permission for imports is being granted following careful inspection and the government earns tax revenue through these imports,” he added.
The Minister clarified that no discussions have been held to remove the USD 1,200 million cap and said he cannot be held responsible for monthly fluctuations in the number of imported vehicles.
“There are no issues with vehicle imports at present,” Jayatissa reiterated.
