Colombo, June 2 (Daily Mirror) - There will be no increase in bus fares at this stage despite the recent rise in fuel prices, said Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Prasanna Gunasena.
Speaking on the matter, the Deputy Minister said bus fares are revised strictly according to the existing fare revision formula.
He explained that a bus fare adjustment can only be considered if fuel prices increase or decrease by more than four per cent, as stipulated under the formula.
“The recent fuel price increase will not lead to a bus fare hike. Bus fares are revised only in accordance with the established formula. A fare revision is considered only when fuel prices change by more than four percent. Since the latest fuel price increase has not exceeded that threshold, there will be no bus fare increase,” Gunasena said.
The Deputy Minister emphasised that the government will continue to follow the approved fare revision mechanism when determining any future changes to bus fares.
