Ministry issues official IDs for the first time to teachers, principals

In view of Teachers' Day today, an official Identity Card (ID) was issued for teachers and principals for the first time in history by the Education Ministry.

The ceremony to hand over the IDs was held with the patronage of the Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardana.

While addressing the event, the Minister said this type of IDs have never been issued to teachers and principals before by the Ministry.

The congratulatory messages conveyed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa when announced by the minister on that occasion. State Ministers Susil Premajayantha, Vijitha Berugoda, Sita Arambepola, Member of Parliament for Consultative Education Yadamini Gunawardena, Anupa Pasqual, Education Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Perera and several other Ministry officials and teachers and principals were present at the occasion.

"It is not only the power of virtue and wisdom but also the knowledge of our children that makes the teacher a good citizen. We must pay respect to teachers. We must be committed to improving the safety of teachers and ensuring the security of their rights. To fulfill the responsibilities on the commitment of all in the departments, I request the support of all teachers," the Minister added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
