Colombo, May (Daily Mirror) - A suspect has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault and robbery during a liquor party in North Kalutara, police said.
The North Kalutara Police said the suspect, a 36-year-old resident of Dediyawala, Waskaduwa, was arrested over the incident which had allegedly taken place during the early hours of May 20.
Investigations were launched following a complaint lodged by 26-year-old chef Juwan Mandadige Vihanga Vishmitha Fernando, a resident of Fonseka Place, North Kalutara.
According to the complaint, Fernando and his younger brother had been travelling by three-wheeler to their aunt's house in Waskaduwa at around 11.30 p.m. on May 19 when they met a friend at Nagas Junction, who invited them to join a party being held at Kongas Junction.
Fernando had told police that around 15 people were present at the gathering and that several individuals had allegedly assaulted him using sticks and kicks before robbing him of Rs. 26,200 in cash, US$50 and his brother's mobile phone valued at around Rs. 50,000.
Police said the arrested suspect was due to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate's Court yesterday (21).
Further investigations are being carried out by officers of the Criminal Investigation Division of the North Kalutara Police under the instructions of Officer-in-Charge Chief Police Inspector Thushara de Silva.
