Colombo, May 28 (Daily Mirror) - Water levels in most major rivers across the country remain at normal levels despite prevailing showery conditions, the Irrigation Department said.
However, the Maguru Ganga at Magura and the Kuda Ganga at Millakanda have reached alert levels, with water levels in Kuda Ganga continuing to rise.
The report showed that several areas received significant rainfall during the past 21 hours ending at 6.00 a.m. today. The highest rainfall of 73.8 mm was recorded in Deraniyagala on the Seethawaka Ganga basin, followed by 69.3 mm in Ellagawa on the Kalu Ganga basin.
Meanwhile, Glencourse and Kithulgala in the Kelani Ganga basin recorded 42.7 mm and 36.9 mm of rainfall respectively.
Despite the rainfall, water levels in major rivers including the Kelani, Kalu, Gin, Nilwala, Mahaweli and Attanagalu Oya remained within normal ranges, the report added.
