The Mahindananda Aluthgamage Foundation has returned a property it occupied for nearly 20 years to the Department of Railways.
The foundation had been operating on land owned by the Railway Department under a long-term lease arrangement.
A decision to reclaim the land was taken at a District Coordination Committee meeting in December last year, where officials were instructed to complete the process within a month.
The handover took place on Friday morning, with the foundation’s Secretary, Chamika Dharmathilaka, officially transferring the land and buildings to Railway Department officials.
Dharmathilaka, however, stated that a valid lease agreement still exists in relation to the property.
