Colombo, January 27 (Daily Mirror) - Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe in response to an inquiry about the shortage of red rice and the soaring prices of coconuts by a group of residents in Galle yesterday, said, "Let's wait and see what happens.'
Wickremesinghe was visiting the home of the late veteran journalist Victor Ivan at Katuhempala in Galle last morning, where he met with the late journalist's relatives and expressed his condolences.
The former President said Victor Ivan's passing away was a massive loss, and that he had made a significant contribution to the country.
While at the late journalist's home, a group of residents gathered and raised concerns about the shortage of red rice and the price of coconuts, with some saying a coconut had reached Rs. 200. They claimed it was Ranil Wickremesinghe who gave 10 kilos of red rice last time.
"Sir, you are our hope, and we need you," the residents told Wickremesinghe.
In response, the former President said, "Let's wait and see what happens."
