Leading rice mill owners announce revised prices for rice

Leading rice mill owners said today that they will not allow the price of rice to increase in the market in a manner that will cause inconvenience to consumers due to the removal of the control price imposed by the government on rice.

Speaking at a media briefing in Polonnaruwa today, the Large-Scale Mill Owners’ said that the people should not have to worry unnecessarily that there will be a huge increase in the price of rice in the market.

Accordingly, the wholesale price of a kilo of Nadu rice will be Rs.110, a kilo of Samba rice will be Rs. 140 and a kilo of Keeri Samba rice will be Rs.165.

The rice mill owners said in comparison to wholesale prices, only Rs. 5 per kilo will be added to retail prices. (K.G. Karunaratna)
