Colombo, July 8 (Colombo) - The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) and the Vehicular Emission Test Trust Fund (VETTF) have introduced a web portal that enables vehicle owners to check whether their vehicles have been blacklisted a service designed to improve transparency and enforce emission regulations.

Accordingly, vehicle owners can check their vehicle status through the official Vet.lk website.

This user-friendly online facility allows motorists to verify the blacklist status of their vehicles by simply entering the vehicle number. The initiative is aimed at preventing issues during ownership transfers, addressing unresolved traffic violations, and managing pending investigations related to vehicles.

The Vehicle Emission Testing (VET) office actively conducts programs such as the Smokey Vehicle Spotter Program and Roadside Vehicle Testing Programs to identify vehicles emitting excessive smoke. When such vehicles are detected, their owners are notified via warning letters to present their vehicles for emission testing and necessary repairs at the Werahera DMT premises.

Failure to comply with these notifications results in the vehicle being blacklisted. Once blacklisted, the vehicle’s VET certificate and revenue license cannot be renewed until it undergoes testing and necessary repairs. Furthermore, the blacklisting is recorded in the DMT vehicle registration system, halting any official services or transactions involving the vehicle.

Authorities have urged all vehicle owners especially those purchasing second-hand vehicles to use this facility and confirm their vehicle’s status to avoid legal or administrative complications.

The public can access the service at www.vet.lk and check: Is your vehicle blacklisted?
