Colombo, May 29 (Daily Mirror) - Health authorities have raised alarms, warning that the Kandy District is now on the verge of becoming a high-risk area for Dengue fever as the number of reported cases continues to rise.
Community Health Officer Dr. Suranga Fernando informed the District Coordinating Committee that the spread of the potentially deadly disease was reaching epidemic levels. He revealed that the highest number of Dengue-positive cases had been reported from Yatinuwara and the Kandy Municipal area.
Dr. Fernando explained that an area is classified as a high-risk zone for Dengue when patient numbers surpass 100 cases per week. Alarmingly, the number of cases in the district has exceeded that threshold, with 340 cases reported for May alone and 116 cases recorded within the last week.
Health authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and seek medical attention promptly if symptoms arise.
