Homagama Police track down New Year’s street racers

Colombo, April 26 (Daily Mirror) -Following an investigation by the Homagama Police, two cars involved in a street race on the High Level Road during the inauspicious time at dawn on New Year’s Day were identified, police said.

A video of the street race was circulated on social media.

According to the footage, the illegal race appears to have started from the pedestrian crossing at Galawilawatta on the High Level Road in Homagama.

After the investigation, the cars involved in the race were taken into police custody yesterday (25) and statements from the drivers were recorded.

The video was originally posted on April 13 at 11:43 p.m. by a group called Pocket Rockets Club on Facebook.

Authorities confirmed that no prior permission had been obtained from any relevant authority to conduct the race. Additionally, the roads had not been cleared, posing a serious risk of accidents.

The Homagama Police said that residents in the area had lodged complaints, claiming the race caused significant inconvenience to motorists and the general public.
