Hemantha called up as Hasaranga ruled out of T20 World Cup

Feb. 11 (Mirror Sports) – Sri Lanka have been hit by a major blow in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out with a hamstring injury sustained during the opening win over Ireland in Colombo, where he took three crucial wickets. Medical checks confirm he will play no further part in the tournament.

In response, Sri Lanka have drafted in Dushan Hemantha as Hasaranga’s replacement, approved by the Event Technical Committee. The 30-year-old leg-spinner, who has played three T20Is since debuting against Zimbabwe last year, also adds valuable lower-order hitting. He now gets a golden chance to make his mark on the world stage.

Sri Lanka face Oman on February 12, with all eyes on Hemantha as he steps into one of the biggest roles of his career.
