Colombo, May 28 (Daily Mirror) - Showers and thundershowers are expected to continue across several parts of the country today, with fairly heavy rainfall of about 75 mm likely in parts of the south-western region, the Meteorology Department said.
According to the weather forecast issued at 5.30 a.m. today (28), showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
The department said fairly heavy rainfall is likely at some places in the Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Ratnapura districts.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 1.00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds of 30-40 kmph can also be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee district.
The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
