Colombo, May 30 (Daily Mirror) - The National Meteorological Centre has issued a weather advisory, forecasting heavy showers exceeding 100 mm in certain areas of the country. According to the Forecasting Division, these downpours are likely in some places within the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts.
In addition, thundershowers have been predicted at intervals in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-western provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts. Meanwhile, several spells of showers may occur in parts of the North-central province and in the Mannar and Hambantota districts.
The Department also warns of strong winds ranging between 50 to 60 kmph over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Fairly strong winds, around 30 to 40 kmph, can be expected in other parts of the island from time to time.
The Meteorological Centre advises the public, especially those in vulnerable areas, to take necessary precautions against sudden strong winds and localized heavy showers.
