Health experts urge calm as new Covid subvariants found in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan health authorities have reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm following the detection of two new Omicron subvariants, LF.7 and XFG, within the country.

The Medical Research Institute (MRI) said that the emergence of new subvariants is a normal part of the virus’s evolution. 

It stated that ongoing genetic testing across hospitals has helped identify the subvariants early.

Periodic mutations are expected, and our systems are prepared to respond swiftly.

It added that Sri Lanka’s health sector continues to closely monitor global and local trends to stay ahead of the virus.
