Govt. to allocate Rs. 29bn for Maha paddy purchase

The Government has planned to implement the Paddy Purchase Programme during the 2021/2022 Maha Season to provide a fair price to the farmers and maintain the paddy reserve of the Government.

The decision was announced at the weekly cabinet meeting at the information department today.

Accordingly, the paddy harvest purchase will be done directly by the Paddy Marketing Board and by District Secretariats/Government Agents through the small and medium-scale paddy mill owners.

An allocation of Rs. 29,805 million will be secured through State banks. The proposals were made by the Agriculture Minister.
In case, there is a shortage in the paddy harvest in the 2021–2022 Maha Season, the Government will provide a compensation of Rs. 25 per 1 kg of paddy to secure the income level of the affected paddy farmers.
