Govt chirping away funds unnecessarily on bird park

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) today criticized the government's project to construct a bird park in Battaramulla. 

SJB MP Hesha Vithanage told a press conference that funds should not be wasted on a bird park at this time of crisis. 

"This is not an appropriate time to spend Rs. 5 billion for a bird park as people are suffering from hunger while the country is facing a pandemic. Also farmers are weeping without fertilizer," the MP said. 

"Also organic fertilizer usage will create environment crisis in the future. One has to use  kilos of organic fertilizer on tea plantation. These could turn into soil and will be washed away down to tanks and will get picked up in the bottom. This could destroy our tanks and resavours ," the MP said. (Yohan Perera)
