Goods handling charges by rail wagon announced

 The Railway Department today announced the charges for transporting goods using railway carriages.

They said anyone who uses the carriages to transport their goods will get the facility to transport goods to any railway station all over the island from the main warehouse in Colombo.

Accordingly, the railway department charges Rs. 11 to transport goods weighing one ton for one kilometre. There will be a refundable deposit of Rs. 20,000 will be levied to hire a single rail wagon.

Minimum weight of 35 tons will be allowed in a single rail wagon and the maximum would be 45 tons, and the minimum distance would be 100km. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
