Colombo, Dec. 19 (Daily Mirror) - The government will not seek the support of former leaders who were involved in corruption through disasters, in the fund raising process this time, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said today.
She told Parliament that the people and the international communities have offered to support Sri Lanka due to the trust placed by them on the good governance practices of the government.
Responding to a remark by MP Rauff Hakeem that the government must seek the support of former Presidents in appealing for international support in the recovery effort, the Premier said it is better not to get the leaders who had lost public trust involved in this effort.
"I propose that we better not get the former leaders who were accused of corruption through disasters involved in the fund raising process this time. The trust on the government due to its uncorrupt governance has been a main reason for the people and the international community to come forward and help us," she said.
