Five sentenced to death over murder

Colombo, May 25 (Daily Mirror) - A group of five accused who stood indicted with murder were found guilty and sentenced to death by Balapitiya High Court Judge Ruchira Weliwatta on Friday (22).
They had on July 29, 2007 clubbed to death a resident of Bataduwa in Batapola , Gusthingnawadu Manjula during a brawl over a family dispute’The accused Kulappuwawadu Wasantha Jayalath, Kulappuwawadu Pearl Bandula, Kulappuwawadu Nandana Pathmakirithi , Siddha Marakkala Janaka Kumara and Hinidumage Lahiru Maduranga were residents of Batapola and two of them father and son. Delivering the death sentence the High Court Judge held that the prosecution had established the charges beyond reasonable doubt securing conviction against the accused. State Counsel Hiruni Gunatileka prosecuted while Meetiyagoda police gave evidence for the prosecution.
