Election Commission responds to reports on resignation of its members

The Election Commission said that it has not yet received a written resignation of a member of the Election Commission.

Responding to news reports that the members including the Chairman of the Elections Commission have resigned and that the resignation of one of the members has been forwarded to the President's Office, Secretary of Election Commission H.M.T.D. Herath said that the commission has not received any resignation or a copy of a letter.

The Chairman and the members of the Elections Commission will carry out the constitutional functions of the Commission and the functions related to the upcoming local government elections as planned without any interruption, he said.

He said the Commission has observed that such false propaganda is being carried out from time to time with the aim of undermining the confidence of the people towards the Commission.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
