Double trouble for some school children in the Central Province: Hakeem

Colombo, May 21 (Daily Mirror) - Children in schools in the Central Province which have been earmarked for relocation after the Ditwah cyclone faced double trouble when their education was disrupted once again as a result of the recent adverse weather conditions, Opposition MP Rauff Hakeem told Parliament yesterday.

He said children attached to 22 schools in the Central Province were to be relocated and were inconvenienced. “Some of these children suffered once again due to adverse weather conditions which prevailed in the Central Province a few days ago,” the MP said.

The Ditwah cyclone destroyed some 57 school buildings, he said. .Relocation is delayed as the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) is delaying certification.

“Although Rs 700 Million was allocated for relocation of Ditwah -affected schools , the relocation has been delayed, Hakeem said.
