Dengue threat to continue till mid-August: Health Minister

Colombo, July 22 (Daily Mirror) - Excepting for three districts, a decreasing trend of the dengue outbreak could be seen in the country.

Claiming that the decreasing trend of the dengue outbreak in the country was due to public concern, Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday that the risk however will continue for three more weeks until mid August.

He said there is a decreasing trend of dengue cases even in the Colombo District was due to the public being involved.

Responding to a question at the weekly Cabinet briefing, he said the dengue outbreak cannot be controlled by declaring a single day's leave to clean the environment.

He said dengue breeding places could be found in unnoticed places even inside homes as well.

The Minister said the public must get the assistance of the MOH and PHIs to fumigate dengue breeding places until the South West monsoon rains settle.

He said a permanent solution must be found to address the issue after the South West monsoon.
