Car driven by cop falls down 150 feet precipice, wife killed

A 34-year-old woman was killed and four others were injured after a car driven by a police constable skidded off the road and fell into a 150 feet precipice near the 29th kilometer post of Riverston Matale Road in Laggala.

Police said the accident occurred when the car was being driven from Matale towards Laggala this evening.

Five people, including the driver of the car who were injured in the accident, were admitted to the Matale hospital and the constable's wife died while  undergoing treatment.

The car was driven by a police constable attached to the Matale headquarters police and  his child, wife's sister and her child were among the injured.

The deceased is a resident of Ukuwela.(DSB)
