CBSL pumps in US$ 50 Mn to facilitate release essential goods stuck at ports

Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal said that US$ 50 million would be released to two state commercial banks to facilitate the release of essential items that are stagnant at the Colombo port.

The CBSL governor told the Daily Mirror that he does not wish to see containers with essential goods piled at the port for want of US dollars.

“If there is further requirement of US dollars , we will consider it,” he said.

More than 600 containers are stuck at the ports.(Kelum Bandara)
