Bringing down number of Covid-19 cases will take time: Dr. Samaraweera

It will take a certain period of time to bring down the number of Covid-19 positive cases to a low level, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said.

The number of people who could infect others from the Peliyagoda and Minuwangoda clusters is increasing, he said. "Earlier the number of infected persons dropped to a low level within a short period of time," he said, adding it would take some time for the number of cases to drop, as the clusters are large this time.

"The first contacts of Covid-19 infected persons should be identified and sent for immediate quarantine. PCR tests also need to be conducted to bring the current positive count to a lower level," he said.(Chathuranga Samarawickrame)
