The Government and the Health Ministry have paid due attention on breaking the logjam of the grievances of the Health Trade Unions (TUs), Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said.

A strike was launched by the Health Service Trade Union Collective in about 1,000 Government Hospitals from 7.00 am to 12.00 noon this morning.

Addressing a news briefing held at the Health Promotion Bureau, he said they would neither expect nor want the trade union to continue the TU action further making an adverse impact on the prevailing COVID situation in the country.

“I would like to recall the previous trade union action initiated by health workers in July which persuaded the then COVID situation to go from bad to worse,” he pointed out.

Hence, he said no one should let this TU action turn towards worse and disturb the momentum at present.

“The demands of the TUs could be resolved by means of discussions and we hope it would happen soon,” Dr. Herath added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
