Assistant Divisional Secretary dies of burn injuries

Colombo,Feb 17 (Daily Mirror)- The Assistant Dvisional Secreatary of Chavakachcheri Sathees Thamalini (35) died of serious burn injuries caused by a fire which broke out in her house. 

She was a resident of the Nirveli area and the mother of a six year old daugher.

Doctors of the Chavakachcheri Hospital said the victim was six months pregnant and that their attempt to save the mother and child had failed.

Her husband, a Grama Niladhari of the area told police that she her dress had caught fire when she attempted to light a candle. 

Police said whether the circumstances that led to her death were due to foul play, suicide or an accident were yet to be established and that they will hold a formal investigation.

Police were scheduled to record a further statement from her husband.
