The Department of Meteorology today issued an advisory for strong winds and rough seas that could be experienced in several areas in the country.
According to the advisory issued at 6.00 pm today, the wind speed could be increased up to 70 kmph in the sea area extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambanthota.
“These sea areas will be very rough at times,” the Department warned.
Thus, the department requested the naval and fishing communities not to venture into the sea areas and those who are currently positioned within this area are advised to move on to safer locations until further notice.
Meanwhile, the maximum rainfall of 180.1mm was reported in the Wevalthalawa area in Kegalle.
Also, the water level of Kalu Ganga is rising and people in low-lying areas surrounding the river have been requested to remain vigilant of floods. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
