82 arrested for damaging property: Police

Eighty two persons have been arrested by the police for damaging public property while protesting against the new rule which makes the use of plastic crates compulsory in the transportation of fruits and vegetables.

45 persons were arrested in Dambulla and 37 others were taken into custody in Bandarawela.

The protests were held yesterday. Police said that two buses, two police vehicles and several other vehicles were damaged by the protesters. (SD)
