60 year-old remanded for wooing 14 year-old

A 60 year-old man who had been on remand on the charge of wooing a 14 year-old schoolgirl was released on personal bail in Rs.25,000 by Kalutara Chief Magistrate Aruna Aluthge yesterday.

The suspect Karunanayaka Malcollet Silva was a resident of Baddegama in Galle and a relative of the girl. Aluthgama police informed court that the suspect had presented a chocolate slab valued at Rs.100 and a packet of biscuits and inserted a love letter in one of her school books. Police produced the suspect’s letter in court.
