At least 40 Indian nationals who had attempted to enter into Sri Lankan waters on board four fishing vessels in the seas off Mannar were repatriated to the Indian waters along with their fishing vessels by the Navy on Saturday.
The Navy has stepped up security in the island waters by increasing 24-hour patrols, as there is a risk of the surge in the transmission of COVID -19 in the country due to attempts made by foreigners to enter into the island via sea routes.
The North Central Naval Command had managed to intercept these four Indian fishing vessels along with 40 individuals.
Later, they were repatriated to their territorial waters along with the fishing vessels.
