The dismal depths the educational establishment has fallen in to in present day context leave a great deal to be desired. This is the harsh reality. The cases of disgraced heads of leading educational institutions who have practically failed to add any positive value to the institutions they run, at least to justify their salaries are aplenty. Ignominious conduct of these individuals from many parts of the country have gone a long way to tarnish the image of the positions which were considered hallowed and treated with veneration in the days gone by. A profession that once evoked respectful obedience is not treated with same level of respect today. High level of respect commanded by the forefathers of educational profession through magnanimous conduct upholding noble value systems has seen drastic degeneration over the years. It has trickled down the line from top to bottom defiling every rung of the ladder causing detriment to one of the top most important sectors of the country’s future progress.
The instances of farcical failures made by authorities too have added insult to the serious injury contributing to the loss of confidence on its capabilities by school going children as well as their hapless parents. It is unbelievable that an elaborate hierarchy of officers forming many divisions with clearly divided responsibilities and functions manning many levels of authority with an extensive mechanism of checks and balances could not detect silly mistakes appearing on Question Papers, which were found by innocent children to their utter dismay and disappointment. Sadly some question papers had contained answers for some questions too and all this muddle up point to one thing, the fast deteriorating standard of education in our country which is very rapidly becoming a right royal mess of monstrous proportions. None of the grandiose proclamations made from various podiums have done anything of substance to address the practical reality which is a far cry from what is spoken and shown to be. Those who matter appear to be stubbornly unconcerned and egoistic in their apathetic conduct to address a sensitive issue affecting the future our own country.
People need to realize that there is nothing to prove here. Facts are stubborn and they should be accepted as they are and measures need to be initiated without delay to find solutions to problems in order to offer redress. Education is a sector that is designed to produce intellectuals and hence calls for people of stature and high calibre with wisdom and foresight for unbiased decision making, without fear or favour, in the best interests of enriching the future leaders of the nation.
The country cannot afford to allow it to become an arena of competition between sections that are obstinately holding on to their opinions and views at a heavy cost to innocent children who are in no way responsible for repetitive bungles that continue to be made. When the establishment fails to provide proper results of an important examination and keeps messing it up further, it speaks volumes for its own efficacy. The latest being much talked about befuddlement concerning the so called Z score computed by the system that process examination results to determine the success rate of candidates, which appears to be hardly understood by anyone including those who proudly introduced it. It became the nightmare for many a child to find that they have been reported as absent for the question papers that have in fact been sat for. All their hard work would have gone down the drain had not it been for the intervention of the highest court of the land. There is some hope for those who became hopeless. But it would not be sufficient to once again re-establish the trust and confidence the students and their community lost in a big way on the current method of determining their success at the examination.
Although explanations could be churned out in large numbers, what is at core is the future of young ones who are striving hard to achieve their cherished goals through thick and thin. By producing fiascos galore, the establishment would not be doing justice by the children.
Collective officialdom and political authority could take step back to carry out an objective evaluation to ascertain what has gone wrong where, and speak the plain truth with a well thought out action plan to rectify areas where corrective measures are needed. That is the crying need of the hour and the way to do justice to our progenies who rely on us and look up to us with hearts crying out for a better deal they certainly deserve. Lack of confidence and loss of respect can only be restored by doing the right thing the right way. It is the fervent plea and earnest appeal.
Hope, it will not fall on deaf ears.
