On October 9, 2011, a weekend newspaper (‘Sunday Times’) carried an article about an illegal construction located at 30, Church Road, Nuwara Eliya.
Even after 15 years this illegal unauthorised building still remains to exist and the owner is making use of it for various purposes. Nothing has been done by the authorities to have it demolished to teach all others lesson and a warning.
I live nearby to this site and have noticed that currently another owner of an adjoining property located up a hill at 32, Church Road, Nuwara Eliya, opposite the Economic Centre, has flattened hills and begun an ugly unauthorised illegal construction posing a danger to adjacent buildings due to the levelling of the hilly terrain.
The Municipal Council, Urban Development Authority and National Building Research Organisation (NBRO)0 should inspect, investigate and stop these illegal constructions and take action to stop the work and to issue demolition orders.
It is speculated that several owners of illegal, unauthorised constructions at Nuwara Eliya are alleged to be known for paying politicians and senior officials at the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council and UDA, large sums of money and obtaining approvals for their illegal unauthorised constructions.
