French action against UN Rapporteur - a ruse to divert attention

After all the US -- the leader of NATO -- of which most European countries are part of, is funding Israel’s war in Palestine

Four days ago,  the French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned in the French National Assembly what he termed the “…outrageous and reprehensible remarks of Ms. Francesca Albanese”, the United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian territories. Barrot called for Albanese’s resignation.

Albanese has consistently highlighted Israeli war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide against Palestine’s civilian population in Gaza since Israel invaded the Palestinian city on 7 October 2023. In its World report 2026, Human Rights Watch confirms that  in 2025, Israeli forces escalated their atrocities, including war crimes, crimes against humanity and acts of genocide, and ethnic cleansing against Palestinians in Gaza.

The attacks have killed, maimed, starved and forcibly displaced Palestinians. It has destroyed their homes, schools, and infrastructure at a scale unprecedented in recent history. Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza has resulted in the killing of more than 69,000 Palestinians, including more than 19,000 children and injuring of more than 170,000.

Al Jazeera puts the number of children killed at 20,000. UNICEF estimated that 3,000 to 4,000 children in Gaza have lost one or more limbs.1,722 health workers have been killed and 125 hospitals have been attacked by Israeli forces.

On 20 October 2025, the US-brokered a ceasefire between the two parties, but in the first two months of the ceasefire being put in place, Gaza’s Health Ministry registered more than 350 Palestinians  killed by Israel. According to Health Care Workers Watch, as of July 22, Israeli forces are holding 28 prominent physicians, including 18 senior specialists in vital fields such as surgery, anaesthesiology, intensive care and paediatrics, thus depriving Gaza’s devastated health system of critical expertise.

The French Foreign Minister based his demand for Albanese’s resignation, based on a false accusation that she called Israel a “common enemy” to humanity in an online interview.Though Albanese posted the full video, France and other EU countries have continued their calls for her resignation.

Oh my, oh my! the EU and other so-called and upholders of human rights and saviours of democracy have suddenly forgotten Israel’s transgressions in every field of rights. They continue blaming Lanka of alleged war crimes committed during this country’s civil war. But they are now blind to atrocities Israel continues to commit against Palestinian civilians in real time.

Despite Albanese posting the full video of her speech, the French, Germans and other EU countries want her dismissed based on a doctored video.

Albanese has done more to expose Israeli war crimes, its imposition of apartheid on Palestinians than any other organisation or country. Could it be that the calls for her dismissal are a   cover for a crime  -- that  EU countries and the US are participating in the ongoing genocide in Palestine?

After all the US -- the leader of NATO -- of which most European countries are part of, is funding Israel’s war in Palestine. The United States provides substantial, long-term military and financial support to Israel, tied to a 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (2019-2028) guaranteeing Israel $3.3 billion annually in Foreign Military Financing and $500 million for missile defence. Following Israel’s attack on Gaza in October 2023, the U.S. has delivered over $21.7 billion in additional military aid, including advanced weaponry and emergency, to support Israel’s defence.

Again many European countries as well as the Americans were indirectly supportive of the late German leader Adolf Hitler’s crime of attempting to exterminate the Jews during World War II. By their action of refusing visas to the Jewish population attempting to flee Germany,  they in reality were complicit in the massacre of Jews during that period.

Similarly these self-same countries who refuse to take action to stop the genocide in Palestine are as guilty as the Israelis in the ongoing crime of genocide in Palestine. Today,  these countries prevent the United Nations (UN) from taking positive steps to stop Israeli massacres of children, bombing of refugee camps, depriving delivery of food and medical supplies to a starving population. Nor do they bring pressure on Israel to stop attacks on hospitals in the Gaza.

The attack on the  Special Rapporteur  on Palestine is simply a means of distracting attention  away from the continued commission of genocide in Gaza.
