Beware of Bogus Elders Homes

This is a warning to readers about an elders’ home in Sarikamulla, Panadura with its owner conducting unethical activities under the guise of religion.

This so-called home which the owner claims as a resort is not registered with proper authorities and hence when a resident passes away there it becomes a big issue with the Police getting involved to release the body. It is for this reason that the residents are not eligible to vote at elections. The owner advertises the home saying the maids who take care of the residents have experience in caregiving abroad. They are merely estate workers whom she puts in uniform and calls trainee nurses. The so-called healthy meals provided are merely Pol Sambol and Rice for dinner one day, bread and butter or even Kekiri gravy and bread! The residents are made to drink tap water.

Quite apart from around the clock care, some of the doctors she hires service cannot even write a proper prescription. Once this lady got an established nursing company to do some medical tests on residents. When a former resident checked up, it was revealed that the actual amount of these tests had been doubled by her and they said that they charge less when it is an elders’ home.

This explains the reason for the absence of receipts provided for all payments made, not even for the high rent. She criticises other homes when her institute is  one of the worst.

The only ‘qualification’ necessary to enter this home is that the residents must agree to go to the church where her son is a pastor – who accordingly does not get a salary. So one wonders how he leads a luxurious life??

She never maintains confidentiality and tells all personal details of the residents. She continues to spread a pathetic story of her being kidnapped in the late 1980’s – which is allegedly another lie!

Whilst she starves the residents most of the money she gets is given to her greedy family especially her son’s church according to reliable sources.

The neighbours in Sarikamulla dislike this lady and the maids say that they scold her in derogatory terms.
