People are once again queuing up to obtain gas due to a shortage. Sri Lankans have had quite unfortunate experiences languishing in queues during the Gotabaya Rajapaksa regime. The incumbent government says that there’s no shortage but people seem to be at the receiving end again. Another news item indicated a shortage of life saving drugs in hospitals. According to medical experts painkillers, antibiotics and medicines need for chronic illnesses are either unavailable or critically low in stock. This government needs to rectify these issues affecting the common man immediately. If the common man is not happy, no regime could survive for long. It’s high time to learn from past experiences and set things rights. A trade unionist alleged that the gas shortage emerged because the government wanted to procure gas at a cheaper rate. It is always good to take decisions in ways that wouldn’t affect people because people don’t deserve to make any more sacrifices due to political shortcomings. The government assumed power on a promise that it will put people first. So they really need to stick to their promises.
