A people-friendly regulation for parking

Dear Hon. Mayor,

I would like to extend my congratulations on your appointment as the Mayor of Colombo and wish you every success in serving our city.

I am writing to respectfully propose a simple and people-friendly regulation regarding parking charges within Colombo and its surrounding areas, for your kind consideration.

Proposed Parking Regulation:

- Parking fees to be charged only between 8.00 a.m. and 8.00 p.m.

- No parking charges to be applied on:

 - Sundays

- Poya Days

- Government-declared public holidays

This approach, I believe, would greatly benefit the general public, especially those who travel to Colombo for work, religious activities, shopping, and family matters. It would also encourage smoother movement into the city during non-peak and holiday periods, while still allowing the municipal council to maintain revenue during standard working hours.

Such a regulation would strike a fair balance between effective urban management and public convenience, and would be warmly welcomed by many citizens.
