The Committee on Public Finance (COPF) yesterday instructed the Commissioner General Immigration and Emigration to carry out an immediate probe on the personal data breach related to Sri Lanka’s visa issuing system.
COPF Chairman Dr. Harsha de Silva told Daily Mirror that he had instructed the Commissioner General Immigration and Emigration to carry out an immediate probe on the personal data breach which was revealed over social media.

“I personally instructed the Commissioner General to carry out an immediate probe and give it top priority and showed him the social media post,” Dr. de Silva said.

Meanwhile the MP said his committee has decided not to come up with details on the alleged visa fiasco because of the sensitive nature of the ongoing probe. “ We took up the issue today at the COPF meeting and we will take it up again on May 14 and that is all we can say at the moment given the sensitive nature of the probe,” he said.
Dr. De Silva said he will come up with details on the fiasco after May 14.
