UNP to brief international organisations such as IPU, CPU and EU
By Yohan Perera
The case against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is becoming a political exercise as there is a sinister move to send him to jail, United National Party (UNP) Deputy General Secretary Harin Fernando said yesterday.
“It looks like there is a sinister move to victimise Mr Wickremesinghe. A certain person seemed to be trying to subject him to victimisation with the objective of securing a high position before his retirement by seeing that Mr Wickremesinghe is sent to jail,” Fernando said.
“We have taken certain steps to avoid this move. Therefore it has been decided to brief the International Parliamentary Union (IPU), Commonwealth Parliamentary Union (CPU), European Union and UN. We have also decided to brief foreign missions in Sri Lanka. One team will be given the task of briefing international organisations while a separate team will be in given the task of briefing foreign missions in Sri Lanka. The party will also launch a programme to meet the Buddhist monks and other members of the clergy, professionals and youth in the local level,” he added.
