UNP WC approves Chamal Senarath as acting Gen. Secretary

UNP working committee (WC) which met yesterday decided to go along with the earlier resolution to appoint new office bearers in January 2021. 

However, the appointment of Chamal Senarath as the acting General Secretary was approved by the working committee according to informed sources. 

“The working committee decided to appoint new office bearers first week in January next year. However, the appointment of new office bearers might be delayed further if the COVID-19 pandemic forces a delay,” sources said. 

Meanwhile, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene when contacted by the Daily Mirror said the working committee will discuss and appoint new office bearers in January next year. 

Daily Mirror learnt from other sources that there was a proposal to appoint former MP Palitha Range Bandara as the new General Secretary. 

There has not been any alternative proposal to date.
