The trophy of the T20 World Cup cricket tournament was taken out from the premises of the Nallur Kandaswamy Temple in Jaffna.
As the T20 World Cup cricket tournament is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, the tournament trophy was brought to Jaffna yesterday.
The trophy was planned to be displayed for public viewing at several locations, including the Jaffna District Secretariat premises, Nallur Kandaswamy Temple, Durayappa Stadium, Jaffna Fort, and the Jaffna Public Library.
However, when the trophy was taken into the Nallur Temple premises, the temple administration instructed that it be taken out.
The temple authorities alleged that certain actions—such as filming videos within the temple premises and some individuals entering the temple grounds wearing footwear—were disrespectful and violated the sanctity of the temple. As a result, the officials had no option but to remove the trophy from the temple premises.
In addition, the temple administration also instructed that a drone camera flying over the temple be brought down.
