The ruling party and the Opposition were engaged in hurling remarks at each other pertaining to sexual tendencies and behaviour.

This was witnessed during an adjournment debate on education reforms in the House yesterday.

Opposition MP Sujeewa Senasinghe who made the remark initially said those who are around the NPP government are engaged in certain lifestyles. “Some who are in and around the NPP government have adopted certain lifestyles. I presume that Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne is fully aware of homosexuality,” the MP said.

“However school children should not be encouraged to adopt certain lifestyles,” he added.

Chief Government Whip Nalinda Jayatissa who responded to this later questioned as to whether Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and the Opposition members are aroused with homosexual tendencies whenever they see the Grade Six module. “There is a picture of two boys in the module. This only reflect teamwork but one wonders whether the Opposition MPs are aroused with homosexual tendencies when they see this picture. There is also a picture of a rainbow. An Opposition politician has said this reflects the LGBTQ flag. One also wonders whether rainbow arouses this politician with homosexual tendencies,” he said.   “The Opposition seemed to be preventing the Grade Six children from entering into a new world,” he added.
