Seven-year-old child dies as wall collapses on him

• Investigations reveal he was playing in the ground below when the wall collapsed on him causing serious head injuries
• Residents say their continual representations to the officials of the National Housing Authority regarding the wall in danger had fallen on deaf ears and that it resulted in the death of the child

A seven-year-old child who was pinned under the plaster of cement mortar in the outer wall of an apartment at the Helamuthu Flats in Madampitiya in Mutwal in Colombo, that collapsed on him died last morning at the Colombo National Hospital.

The victim Motir Sandaruwan was a resident of Randiya Uyana in Mulwal in Colombo 15.   

Investigations revealed that he was playing in the ground below when the wall collapsed on him causing serious head injuries.   

Residents of the area said their continual representations to the officials of the National Housing Authority regarding the wall in danger had fallen on deaf ears and that it resulted in the death of the child.   

Mutwal Police are conducting further investigations.
