Senior Journalist Bakthi no more

Senior Journalist Bakthi Dharmapriya Mendis, who was receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital after sustaining critical injuries in a road accident, passed away yesterday (April 3).

Mendis, an old boy of Richmond College, Galle, began his career in journalism in 2000 as a member of the founding editorial team of the Lakbima newspaper. He later worked with Dinamina and Rivira newspapers, as well as Hiru TV.

He was 47 years old at the time of his demise and was the son of veteran journalist Sugathapala Mendis. He is survived by his wife, Himesha Dharmasena, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and their son, Dimath Thejaka Mendis, a student of Horizon College, Malabe.

His remains will lie at his residence at Mahagedara Watta in Boossa, Galle, from midnight on Saturday (April 4). The funeral will take place at 5 p.m. on Monday at the Dadalla Public Cemetery.
