Rebuilding Sri Lanka has no legal existence to date as it is not properly incorporated, Opposition MP Harsha de Silva told Parliament yesterday.
“A fund such as this should be incorporated in line with the constitution. Accordingly it has to be approved by Parliament. No resolution has been brought to get the approval of the House to this date. Therefore there is no fund called Rebuilding Sri Lanka in the country at the moment,” MP de Silva declared.
“The government seemed to be deceiving the whole world by claiming that there is a fund by the name of Rebuilding Sri Lanka. I am raising this issue as the head of the Committee on Public Finance,” he added.
Furthermore he said there is no way of auditing the fund as there is no attorney general in the country at the moment. Accordingly the MP questioned the delay in appointing an auditor general.
