Peace walk sets off from Anuradhapura

The inaugural ceremony of the Peace Walk led by Ven. Amerikawe Pagnnakara Thera was held at the Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi on Tuesday evening (21)   

The Chief Sanghanayaka of Nuwara Kalaviya Ven. Dr. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera handed over a sapling of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi to Ven. Pagnnakara Thera to be planted at the Ven. Pagnnasara Thera’s temple in Texas.   

. The Buddhist monk taking part in the Peace Walk attended religious observances at the Ruwanweliseya Cheithiya as well.   

The Peace Walk that set off from the Rangiri Dambulu Vihara yesterday will proceed to Matale Aluvihara, Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa, Beligammana Vidyawardena Pothgul Vihara, Tholangamuwa National School, Yakkala Abeysekaramaya, Kelaniya Rajamaha Vihara and arrive at the Independence Square in Colombo.   

The Bo sapling will be presented at a state ceremony on April 28, to the Ven. Pagnnakara Thera by President Anura Kumara Disanayake. Thereafter the Peace Walk would proceed to Hunupitiye Gangarama Temple in Colombo followed by the departure for America of the group of Buddhist monks headed by Ven. Paggnasara Thera on May 01.  

Minister of Buddha Sasana and Cultural Affairs Prof.Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayathissa, Governor North Central Province and several senior officials were present at the ceremony in Anuradhapura    Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
