The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has taken steps to purchase more than five metric tons of paddy in the Yala harvest in the Puttalam, Gampaha, Matale and Kurunegala Districts.
Regional Manager of the PMB Rasika Weranga said ten purchasing centres were now open to purchase paddy for the guaranteed price of Rs.50 a kilo of Nadu and for Rs.52 a kilo of Samba.
He said more than 100 metric tons of paddy had already been purchased by the ten purchasing centres.
Meanwhile, the paddy cultivators who expressed satisfaction about the paddy purchasing scheme and that they were receiving from the PMB a price higher than that of the private sector.
