Mild approach by the government on Venezuela issue: Opposition MP

The Government is following a mild approach with regard to US invasion on Venezuela, an opposition MP told Parliament yesterday.

“Those in the present government used to surround the US Embassy in Sri Lanka many times while they were in the opposition. Why are NPP and JVP silent and following a mild approach with regard to this matter,” Opposition MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake questioned in the House.

“Your breakaway group staged a protest near the US Embassy but you were silent,” he told the MPs in the government benches.

MP Dassanayake also focused on the issue pertaining to Grade Six module regarding sex education. Accordingly, he said Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya cannot get away from the responsibility for this shortcoming. It was the officers attached to Health Ministry which brought down inferior quality pharmaceuticals but the then Minister of Health was sent to jail for it. Likewise, it is the Prime Minister who should be held responsible and penalized for the textbook issue,” he said.
