The controversial situation with regard to Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne has worsened with Opposition MP Harshana Rajakaruna lodging a complaint against the the former with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) while an idea is being mooted to submit a no faith motion.

MP Harshana Rajakaruna lodged a complaint with CIABOC against Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne for the alleged disruption of another complaint filed against him by the Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne.

MP Rajakaruna told the media that the Speaker had allegedly tried to influence the CIABOC.

“The Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne has lodged a complaint with CIABOC on February 2 2026. We are aware that your institution has decided to go ahead with a probe with regard to this complaint. Amidst this situation Speaker’s Personal Secretary Chamira Gallage had requested the Secretary General of Parliament to submit a report on the complaint made with CIABOC to the Speaker. This we believe is an attempt to mess up the investigations while it could be an act of undue influence to the probe. Therefore we request you to carry out an investigation on this matter and not to divulge any information on the complaint to anyone,” the written complaint submitted to CIABOC Chief Neil Iddawela said.

The MP told the media that he and his party are confident that CIABOC will act in an independent manner.

Asked as to whether there is any move to submit a no confidence motion against the Speaker, the MP said it would be submitted at the right time.  Two complaints have been filed against the Speaker with CIABOC while a complaint against the Deputy General Secretary has also been lodged with the same institution.
